The Space Weather Observatory (spaceweatherobservatory.com) is a free, personal research and education project. These terms are short because the deal is simple: enjoy the sky, don't rely on us for safety decisions, and respect the photographers.
Browse everything, free, no account. Share links anywhere. Screenshots for personal, educational, or editorial use are welcome — a credit (spaceweatherobservatory.com) is appreciated.
Every forecast, reconstruction, and visualization here is best-effort science education — built from public scientific data and validated as carefully as one person can — but it is not an operational forecasting service. Do not use it for aviation, marine, power-grid, satellite, emergency-management, or any other safety-critical or liability-sensitive decision. For operational needs, use official sources such as NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. Everything is provided as-is, with no warranty of accuracy, completeness, or availability.
Push alerts are best-effort: delivery depends on your browser vendor's push service and your device settings, and thresholds are honest estimates, not guarantees. The alert service is a courtesy, not a safety system. Abuse of the alert or counting endpoints — flooding, hostile scraping, synthetic subscriptions — may be blocked without notice.
The site's code, text, and rendered visualizations are © Jacob Sprankle. The underlying scientific data come from public sources — NOAA, NASA, ESA, the University of Calgary's TREx network, and others — under their own terms, credited on the about and methods pages. Aurora photographs remain the property of their photographers: community submissions are used only under the consent given at submission (see the privacy page), and the founding calibration corpus is displayed for research, with credit.
Personal and classroom reuse of screenshots: go ahead, with credit. Commercial licensing of reconstructions, renders, or the visibility model — for broadcast, film, apps, or exhibits — is available: ask first via the contact page.
If these terms change, this page changes, with the date below.
